[Rumors] iPhone 8/X vs. Samsung Galaxy Note 8: Price, Designs & Specs

Last Updated: September 11, 2017

2017 is the 10th anniversary year of iPhone and it's shaping up to have a big update with brand-new look in three years to celebrate the occassion as well as retrieve the slumped sales. And Samsung Galaxy Note series also gets the biggest comeback after the disastrous Galaxy Note 7 battery failures last autumn. Before the release of iPhone X and Galaxy Note 8, rumors about the two giant in mobile world had been in the air for several months. Who will get more control of the market? Which smartphone will make people wowed? This iPhone 8/X vs. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 review will help you make a prediction.

Apple iPhone 8/X vs. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 - Release Date

iPhone 8/X Release Date: It's the tenth anniversary of the iPhone and the design is due for big changes that the redesigned iPhone X may be unveiled a bit later. Rumors suggest that iPhone X will be released slightly later October or November 2017, but iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will date with you on time in September 2017 as every year Apple has unveiled a new iPhone in September since the iPhone 5 in 2012 that September iPhone launches have a pretty sure track record. Whatever, it is worth waiting as long as iPhone X make you wow with the brand new look and powerful functions.
Updated: The new iPhone has been comfirmed to date with you on September 12. And there are 3 models: iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.

Note 8 Release Date: Samsung Galaxy Note series release dates are not as regular as iPhone handsets'. Reports have indicated that Samsung is considering unveiling Galaxy Note 8 ahead of iPhone X/8 in consideration of commercial benefit based on the policy "strategically ahead of the debut of the iPhone X in September". Namely, you may see Note 8 ahead of late August and it was proved to be true as Note 8 xome out on August 23.

Apple iPhone 8/X vs. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 – Price

iPhone 8/X Price: Considering the increase in iPhone X components: the 5.8 inch OLED display will add $35 to the asking price, 3D sensing adds $20, better and faster NAND/DRAM memory adds $16 to $29, etc, Apple iPhone X handsets will be more expensive than the previous iPhone models. Supposedly, one of the model iPhone X handsets with 64GB of storage will cost $999 while the one with 256GB will set a value of $1149. This makes the new iPhone 8 at least $ 330 more expensive than Apple's iPhone 7 Plus. If iPhone X's price overruns your budget, you can buy iPhone 8 or 8 Plus which are priced at $699 and $849 respectively.

Note 8 Price: Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is shaping up to like the upgrade version of S8 Plus, meaning that Note 8 will likely be more pricy than S8 Plus. Put it more specifically, Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus is priced at $824.99 (£779, $1,349) and the Note 7 launched at $850 (£749, AU$1,349) - more than the S8 Plus in the US, less in the UK and exactly the same in Australia, showing that Note 8 will cost you at least $850. But it presumably will be cheaper than S8 Plus or Note 7, or won't be much than the two devices considering the continued negative ramifications of Note 7 battery issues.

Apple iPhone 8/X vs. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 – Designs

iPhone 8/X Design Overview: The new leaked iPhone X pictures show that the new Apple iPhone handset has an almost bezel-less design in the front panel featuring an edge-to-edge display like Samsung Galaxy S8 and housing a front-facing camera, microphone and speaker, which aligns exactly with previous leaks. And the rear panel features a vertical dual-lens camera and a separate protruding lens component, with no rear Touch ID in sight, in line with rumors suggesting Apple has indeed figured out how to build Touch ID into the display of the device. Furthermore, this Apple's 10th-anniversary smartphone probably will surprise you with wireless charging tech and 3D sensing capacibilities for facial recognition instead of Touch ID to unlock the device.

Note 8 Design Overview: The design of Galaxy Note 8 is similar to Galaxy S8 featured glass-and-mental sandwich, big screen, fast processor, powerful camera, etc. The rumored design schematic have revealed that Note 8 have an edge-to-edge display with a dual lens camera on the back and a fingerprint scanner below the camera, as well as a dual speaker system – one speaker is placed on the bottom, while the second one is set on the top. Also, the handset will retain the 3.5mm headphone jack and it is compatible with S Pen Stylus.

iPhone X vs Samsung Galaxy Note 8

iPhone 8/X Screen: The iPhone X is expected to adopt a 5.8-inch 2.5 OLED edge-to-edge display that is even curving off to the sides like Samsung Galaxy S8, and the top edge will be nearly flushed to the top to hide the home button, sensors and camera. Of course, the screen can offer different reponse when you use 3D touch.

Note 8 Screen: Galaxy Note 8 will mirror S8 and S8+ models, with a curved screen with infinity display that makes use of almost the entire front side of the handset. It is said that Note 8 will have a 6.3-inch or 6.4-inch screen, larger than the 6.2-inch S8+. The pressure-sensitive screen like iPhone 3D touch will show different menus and options based on how hard you press the display. What you can also expect from Note 8 is that Note 8 would be the first smartphone with a pixel-dense 4K screen that is important when your phone doubles as a Samsung Gear VR headset screen.

iPhone 8/X Camera: The most anticipated feature of iPhone X camera is that the front-facing camera may include 3D sensing capabilities to allow you to find the location and depth of objects in front of it, probably enabling facial recognition. Plus, the rear-facing camera may also contain two lenses with augmented reality features and a Portrait mode for selfies. Rumors also suggest that the dual camera will be in a vertical position for better photos.

Note 8 Camera: Note 8 is likely to come with a dual-lens camera like iPhone 7 Plus. It would be the first Samsung device to offer a dual-lens camera that will put it in direct competition with Apple iPhone 7 Plus and 8. Supposedly, Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will have a 12MP wide-angle lens and a 13MP telephoto one, and you will be able to combine them for a 3x optical zoom. Both cameras will also have optical image stabilization.

iPhone 8/X Water Resistance: According to iPhone 7 and 7 Plus with waterproofing and dust proofing features, Apple iPhone X/8 will also be water-resistant at least to a rating of IP67. Rumors suggest that iPhone X/8 may gain tougher IP68 water and dust resistance that the device will stay submerged at 1.5 meters for 30 minutes just as Samsung Galaxy S7.

Note 8 Water Resistance: Currently, the only smartphone boasting an IP68 rating for 30 minutes of submersion at 1.5 meters to be water-resistant would be Samsung Galaxy S7, which has launched in early 2016. Even Apple's present iPhone models including iPhone 7 and 7 Plus can't achieve that and have to try its best to catch up this year with a new iPhone called iphone 8. Obviously, it is not that difficult for Samsung to put this technology on a new smartphone. So, it is worth looking forward to that Samsung Galaxy Note 8 would have the great feature.

iPhone 8/X iOS: As announced, Apple's next OS for iDevices is iOS 11. iOS 11 is expected to power the revolutionary iPhone X, iPhone 8/8 Plus and new iPad models – 12.9 inch iPad Pro & 10.5 inch iPad Pro. Comparing to A10 processor, the fastest chip A11 adopts the 10nm technology to deliver a doubling of transistor for a boost in performance and energy efficiency.

Note 8 OS: The Note 8 chipset may not differentiate from Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, namely, Note 8 will run the tried-and-tested Android 7.0 Nougat or Android O with a poweful 3GHz+ octa-core processor -Snapdragon 835 or Exynos 8995 chip.

iPhone 8/X Battery & Charging: iPhone X will have a stacked logic board design that can shrink many of the components inside the chassis of iPhone X to make room for a larger 2,700mAh, L-shaped battery to have a longer battery life as well as faster charging speeds. Supposedly the iPhone X series will also continue charging using a Lightning connector, but will use USB Type-C Power Delivery technology for faster charging. In addition to that, it's possible that iPhone X will support contact-based wireless charging through a compatible charging pad.

Note 8 Battery & Charging: Battery safty should also be the priority that Samsung emphasizes at present. Samsung knows that it must make it clear that the upcoming Note 8 handset battery is reliable if Samsung wants to continue the products after the Note 7 fiasco. Samsung is trying its best to offer the worry-free Note 8 by implementing the new 8-point battery safety check as well as investing $128 million into making safer batteries. And the charging is still through the USB port.

iPhone 8/X Storage & RAM: The new flagship iPhone X/8 will ship with 64GB entry-level and 256GB end-level of internal storage accompanying 3GB of RAM.

Note 8 Storage & RAM: It is not sure for now, but we may see an increase to 6GB of RAM to power VR experience, and a boosted storage – 128GB as standard.

iPhone 8/X Home Button: It is more possible that Apple iPhone X will integrate Touch ID directly into the screen rather than keeping it on the back of the phone.

Note 8 Home Button: Samsung probably will eliminate the physical home button in favor of a virtual button at the bottom of the Galaxy Note 8's display. While some romors explain that Samsung will keep the fingerprint scanner on the back instead of implementing it under the screen.
